1ST NATIONAL SUMMIT ON ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH, INDIA

Khushi Centre for Rehabilitation and Research (KCRR) recognizing the growing global environmental concerns over issues like ozone layer depletion, global warming, loss of diversity, economic security, social development and environment sustainability organized the 1st National Summit on Environmental Health: “INDIA 2010: Where do we go from here?". The link between the health and the environment we live in, from the water we drink, to the air we breathe, to the food we grow and eat has become a health concern globally. Environmental health addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person, and all the related factors impacting the behaviour. The assessment and control of those environmental factors that can potentially affect health is very important for the developing country like us. We need to have a target towards preventing disease and creating health-supportive environments. Preventing environmental risk could save as many as lives of four million children a year, in developing countries. Proper environmental management is the key to avoiding a quarter of all preventable illnesses which are directly caused by environmental factors. Hence, the objective of the summit was to create awareness on environmental health issues and to provide a platform to exchange ideas and discuss emerging critical issues. Highlights of the summit were Expert Talk, Exhibition, Youth Parliament, Poster/ Paper Presentation and Pledge.
