Multispecialty Health Camp for Flood affected people | Uttarkashi, Uttrakhand

At Uttarkashi, Khushi Centre successfully organised a Multispecialty Health Camp with the support of honourable Chief Minister of Uttrakhand “Sri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank”, District Magistrate of Uttarkashi “Dr. Hemlata Dhaundhiyal”, and Indian Red Cross Society, Uttarkashi to provide relief to the people those who suffered from the September 2010 disaster.

The Health Camp was organized in the flood affected regions of Uttarkashi Uttrakhand. This four days camp was organised at Barnigad and Rajgarhi, Uttarkashi from 28 Dec to 31st Dec, 2010 to provide health services to the remote regions of Uttarkashi district.
The major objectives of the health camp were to address the health needs of villages at Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand which were affected by severe landslide and flash floods in 2010 and to identify and understand the gaps and hindrances that are coming in way of efficient health system and accessibility and availability of health services.

The KCRR team had multispecialist doctors from Delhi, Dr. Pankaj, Dr. Shalini and Dr. Prakash who provided medical check-up, advice and treatment to the patients coming with various diseases. Major problems screened were respiratory, allergy, anemia, gastritis, hypocalcaemia, arthritis, hay-fever, piles, skin problem, RTI, STI, TB, typhoid.
Ms Nazia, Program Officer and Medical Social Worker from Khushi Centre provided counseling and information on MCH (Maternal and Child Health) and RCH (Reproductive and Child Health), Child Vaccination, Breast and Cervical Cancer ,importance of colostrum, appropriate Breast Feeding practices, intake of nutrition supplements during pregnancy, registration of pregnancy, personal hygiene and HIV/AIDS . She also discussed with them on saving and livelihood options.
A daily routine mapping exercise with women was also done by her to assess the daily routine life of those women and correlate it with their present health status.

Mr Vinay, Consultant Social Worker from Khushi Centre, provided information and details on health, community medicine and rehabilitation and bio-medical waste management to the local health workers including ASHA workers.
Volunteers of the team Mr Vikas, Mr Jimmy and Mr Sukhpreet provided technical and logistic support for the camp by maintaining the registration desk, measuring the BMI (Body Mass Index) of patients and facilitating the entire work.
The entire event was carried out in the guidance of Dr. Bhurelal (Retd. IAS), supported by the Government of Uttarakhand, Indian Red Cross Society, Thakurdwara Trust and successfully managed by Saket Mani Trivedi, Director, Khushi Centre.
